Fred O. Nelson serves as the President of People's Choice where he oversees the annual People's Choice Awards and the year round entertainment website, www.peopleschoice.com. Nelson joined People's Choice in April of 2007 after a decade at Entertainment Weekly where he was V. P., Marketing & Promotion, Editorial Development and most recently V. P., Digital Media where he ran Entertainment Weekly's website, EW.com.
Nelson began his career in account management at Leo Burnett in Chicago. After serving as Associate Midwest Ad Manager for Esquire, Nelson returned to Burnett as Senior Account Executive in their integrated marketing department. Nelson's career at Time Inc. began in corporate marketing as Midwest Sales Development Manager in Chicago. He later moved to Time magazine advertising sales and then on to Worth magazine as Associate Publisher, before becoming President of Capital Publishing's Civilization magazine.
Nelson was Co-Executive Producer for the first two seasons of The World Series of Pop Culture, a television series he created in conjunction with Embassy Row and VH1. Nelson's TV appearances on behalf of Entertainment Weekly have included ABC, Fox News, The WB, Bravo, Access Hollywood, E! and CBS Sunday Morning. Nelson was chosen as a pop culture expert by the producers of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire's "brain trust" lifeline.
Nelson is a native of Kansas and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He currently resides in Manhattan.
